The X Ray Fish originated in South America. In general, they are very peaceful, active and quite easy to take care of.

What exactly is an X Ray Fish?


The X Ray Fish is part of the family Characidae. The scientific name is Pristella maxillaris. They are also called Pristella Tetra, Water Goldfinch or Golden Pristella Tetra. 

Unlike most fish, the X Ray Fish has a semi-transparent body that shows off parts of their vertebrae (spine), swim bladders and internal organs. The transparency gives the fish protection from predators in their own habitat. 

Due to their friendly demeanor and beautiful looks, they have become one of the most sought-after types of tetras to keep in aquariums.
